The material is added from the high end (tail end) of the furnace body and gradually moves downwards as the furnace body rotates and tilts. Fuel (such as pulverized coal, heavy oil, or gaseous fuel) is injected from the low end (head end) of the furnace body and burns inside to generate high temperatures. The exhaust gas produced by combustion exchanges heat with the material and is then discharged from the high end (tail end) of the furnace body.
